Upcoming Webinars

This webinar on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, featuring Allison L. Agwu, MD, ScM, FAAP, FIDSA, a professor of pediatric and adult infectious diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will explore innovative strategies to reduce HIV transmission and promote viral suppression among youth. Topics will include sexual education, community engagement, technology integration, stigma reduction, and mental health support. Participants will learn best practices tailored to the unique challenges faced by young individuals.

New e-Learning Module Available

Breaking Barriers: HIV Awareness, Prevention and Advocacy for Black Women and Girls

Despite notable advancements in HIV prevention and treatment, Black women and girls continue to experience disproportionately high rates of HIV/AIDS, driven by distinct social, political, and structural factors that increase their vulnerability. This self-paced e-learning module will explore these complex determinants and highlight effective strategies for raising HIV awareness, improving screening, and enhancing prevention efforts within Black communities. Participants will examine the crucial roles of healthcare providers, community leaders, and advocates in supporting HIV prevention tailored to the specific needs of Black women and girls. Additionally, they will gain the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for and implement equitable HIV prevention programs, contributing to a more inclusive and effective public health response. 

1.50 continuing education credits (AAPA, ACPE, CNE, IPCE, ASWB, APA, CEP) are available for this activity. 


On-Demand Trainings

The Clinical Education Webinar Series is an ongoing series focusing on clinical management of patients with HIV and other comorbid medical conditions. In each webinar, experts share the latest insights and best practices for optimal health outcomes.

The Heart of the Matter:
Cardiovascular Health in People Living with HIV

This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk among people living with HIV and the underlying factors contributing to this risk. Participants will learn about current risk prediction tools available for assessing CVD risk in people living with HIV, as well as the findings and implications of the REPRIEVE trial. 

 

Beyond the Basics:
Navigating the HIV-Cancer Intersection

This webinar sheds light on the reasons behind increased risk of certain cancers among people living with HIV and why their cancer outcomes are worse compared to people without HIV. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to improve survival in HIV-associated cancers. The webinar also covers potential treatment options that may exploit unique characteristics of these cancers to improve outcomes.

Capacity Building and Technical Assistance

The Effi Barry Training Institute provides trainings and technical assistance to support current and prospective HAHSTA grantees and community-based organizations in the Fee-for-Service business process; basic HIV service competencies; advanced skills in health care systems, data and health informatics; high-impact prevention programs, including biomedical; and emerging evidence-based or informed approaches through a series of group-level trainings, boot camps, community forums, and individual consultation.

Rooted in the idea of holistic, integrated, patient-centered care, HealthHIV capacity building efforts help develop an organization’s ability to improve patient outcomes and increase efficiencies, while remaining organizationally sustainable. The agency’s unique approach involves structuring sustainable systems and services that span the HIV care continuum.
