Data to Action: Using Data to Initiate and Inform HIV/STI Client Services and Public Health Response
Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 12:00pm Eastern

Join Alive! Maryland, led by HealthHIV, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 12:00pm Eastern for a webinar that will illuminate how HIV/STI surveillance and program data are used to initiate and inform client services and public health response.

After defining "data to action" and reviewing the core data sources in Maryland, attendees will learn how data reporting and analysis lead to real-time field services and care engagement support for several groups of people: those newly diagnosed with HIV or syphilis, those living with HIV who may not be fully engaged in HIV medical care, and those who may benefit from HIV/STI testing, treatment, and prevention services. Faculty also will discuss core principles of confidentiality and person-first services, review how trend and network analysis inform public health response, and emphasize how clients, providers, and community members are key partners in HIV/STI data to action.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe data to action as a public health strategy and Maryland’s data to action activities.
  • Identify the role of HIV/STI surveillance data and other core data sources in data to action.
  • Explain methods for implementing client- and community-level data to action that ensure confidentiality and reduce stigma.
  • State how clients, providers, and community members can partner with public health efforts to achieve the goals of HIV/STI data to action.

Please note that continuing education credits are not available for this webinar.

If you are unable to attend the live event, you still need to register so that, after the live event has ended, you will receive an email with access to the recording as well as links to download materials.

Maryland Rural Health Conference

HealthHIV's Capacity Building Manager, Leo Sheridan, had the privilege of speaking at the Maryland Rural Health Conference held last month in Ocean City, Maryland.

"It was an honor to address a diverse audience of approximately 20 individuals hailing from different counties and cities across Maryland," he said.

During the session, Sheridan presented findings from the Alive! Maryland Second Annual Needs Assessment, a comprehensive report focusing on the critical healthcare capacity building needs within Maryland's primary care and infectious disease workforce.

The attendees were deeply engaged, and their inquiries were particularly illuminating. Their questions spanned a range of pivotal topics, including challenges related to rural healthcare accessibility, the availability of virtual capacity training options, and HealthHIV's innovative Community Health Worker (CHW) elevated "Train the Trainer" program, which centers on HIV, STIs, viral hepatitis, and drug user health. Sheridan reported that this new CHW program sparked significant interest, with many eager to enroll in these vital training sessions for their respective CHW teams.

Overall, the speaking engagement at the Maryland Rural Health Conference provided a valuable platform to disseminate crucial information and engage in meaningful discussions with professionals who share a common commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and expertise in rural communities across Maryland. The enthusiasm and proactive response from the audience underscored the pressing need for such initiatives and affirmed the positive impact they promise to have on the broader healthcare landscape.

World AIDS Day - December 1, 2023

World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1st and is an opportunity to reflect on the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, show support for those living with HIV, and commemorate those we have lost to AIDS-related illnesses.

The first World AIDS Day took place in 1988, and this World AIDS Day marks the 35th commemoration with the theme “World AIDS Day 35: Remember and Commit.”

This year is an opportunity to reflect on and remember our journey, acknowledge and celebrate the progress we’ve made, recognize the challenges remaining, and commit to ending the HIV epidemic.
